The Mentawai Islands are a pretty unique place in that it's one of those places in the world where there is a concentration of World Class Surf Spots, in a relatively close proximity. Although there is travel time between spots, you have to remember that your on a boat, and not traveling at 70 mph. Sometimes it can take hours from one spot to the other, sometimes minutes. Some boats are fast and very comfortable, others are slow and basic if not substandard.....

I started off on this particular trip cashing in on some photography work I had done for the boat owner. It was a trade for a magazine article I had supplied some shots for, and was looking foreword to getting back to the Islands.
